Indian Chieftain

The experts from Auto Trader Bikes have ridden hundreds of miles, testing every new bike on sale in the UK to pick these category winners and name the Best Bike of 2014.

The Indian Motorcycle Company may have only announced its return to the UK at last year’s Motorcycle Live, but it has already launched a cruiser that is the new benchmark for the sector. The Chieftain is a truly wonderful machine, dominated by an all-new Thunderstroke 111 air cooled unit but also pouring much attention to the handling, brakes and comfort.

“Sumptuously comfortable and a masterpiece to look at. Everything else – mirrors, screen, cruise control and more – just works.”

David Burton

Runner-up: Harley-Davidson Street Glide

The recent raft of improvements to refinement and rider comfort introduced by Project Rushmore has helped move H-D into the 21st Century. Albeit slowly.

Runner-up: Moto Guzzi California Touring

An Italian bagger with a heritage and culture all of its own. Light on creature comforts but it’s the most dynamic to ride.
