BMW S 1000 XR

This year’s Best Tourer category has seen an influx in so-called ‘adventure sports’ tourers that marry superbike mechanicals with adventure bike chassis. No one model better exemplifies this trend than the BMW S 1000 XR, which is a thinly veiled sports bike that can excite owners but still tour in comfort while carrying both pillions and panniers.

“The S1000 XR is the two-wheeled equivalent of a performance SUV: it goes faster, brakes harder and leans further than it has any right to.”

Runner-up: Kawasaki Z1000 SX

Last year’s Best Tourer has been one of the surprise hits of recent years, blending fun, practicality and value like almost nothing else. A great all-rounder.

Runner-up: Ducati Multistrada S

More refined and less edgy alternative to the BMW with clever Skyhook Evo semi-active suspension for a superbly pliant ride quality.
